  1. For Sports?

    Nikkor 70-300mm VR lens

This is a telephoto Lens and is A Relatively Fast Lens, With VR, Also

    It's Around Five Hundred Dollars

Is It Worth It? :::h**l YEAH:::

This Is The Quality You'll Get From This Lens:

Plus More, This Is A Crystal Clear Lens.

  2. The 28-200mm isn't an "S" lens, so it won't autofocus on your D60.  Your best bet, value-wise is the 55-200mm VR.

The VR (vibration reduction) feature really helps to steady the camera and the shooter during the heat of action.

For a longer range, look at the 70-300mm VR, as it's the only 70-300mm Nikon lens that will autofocus on your D60.

Now, question, do you need a 300mm or will a 200mm do for you?  It all depends on the sport and on how far away you are from the action.

Here are some shots I took with a D200 and an 18-200mm VR (a great lens) from the sidelines at a football game.

Here's some shots I took with a 300mm from way up in the stands at another game.

And, some NCAA basketball shots with the 18-200mm again.

As you can see, a 200mm can work, if you're close enough.

    I hope this is helpful.

  3. Not the 55-200.

Consider getting the 28-200 G. Cheap all around pretty good lens.

It can practically double as a Macro lens cuz it can focus from about 1ft at 200mm.

Believe me you'll want to eventually do some macro shots. It replaces a whole range of lens. You won't need to carry so much gear when you travel. Protects your camera from dust by reducing the number of times you switch lenses.

If you can afford a little more, go for the 18-200VR.

Please check that it works on the D60, I forgot but some of the lens doesn't work so well on the D40-D60 cameras.

  4. I am not sure of your budget.

For sports you need faster lens and longer telephoto coverage. However if you are photographing in day light you may not need a fast lens, its very much required for Indoor sports. I would buy a lens with vibration reduction (aka image stabilizer or optical stabilizer), as you zoom in, even the small hand shake will blur your images

    Some suggestion I have is

Nikkor 70-300mm VR (costs about 500$)

    New Tamron 70-200mm f2.8  (costs about 600$)

    Sigma 150-500mm OS (about 1000$)
