Which lens is better overall? The Canon 10-22mm or the Sigma 10-20mm or the Canon 17-40mm?

I want one of these lenses, but leaning towards the 10-22 right now. Anyone own any of these that can give me your opinion? I will be using this lens on a 40D body.

  1. The Tokina AT-X 116 11-16mm f/2.8 is getting significantly better reviews than the Sigma, and very competitive comparisons with the Canon 10-22.

Its a relatively new lens so you might not have heard of it to include on your list.

  2. If you are looking for a wide angle lens, I highly recommend the Canon 10-22mm. I have the same lens and I also have Canon 40d. 17-40 is not really wide enough due to 40D's 1.6x crop factor. However, if you are planning to buy a full frame camera in near future, I would get the 17-40.

  3. Of the lenses you listed the 17-40 is the better lens but probably not what you need. It would be a great wide angle on a film or full frame SLR. The Canon 10-22 is the lens you need for wide angle on the Canon cropped sensor DSLR's like the Rebels and the 40D. I would avoid Sigma. They are not the best lenses. If you insist on a third party lens try Tamron or Tokina.

  4. THIS DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE PHOTOGRAPHING. IF YOU'RE DOING A LOT OF MACRO SHOTS, THEN I'LL AGREE WITH YOUR CHOICE. OTHERWISE, I RECOMMEND THE 17 - 40 MM AS IT GIVES YOU A LITTLE MORE DISTANCE AND FLEXIBILITY FOR CONCISE SHOTS. HOPE THIS HELPS.
