  1. the dvd support is built in with linux mint and only just a very few others not it can be installed on most distros but its not the easiest thing to do in some

  2. Almost any distro with a GUI can play movies.

  3. Ubuntu is perfect for this...its the fastest and easiest to get your machine to play videos on it.  All you have to do is install ubuntu on your system and after its all done go to applications>add/remove on top and in SHOW: click it and choose "all available applications" type in restricted and wait for it to load ...then click and check "ubuntu restricted extras" after all thats installed you should be able to play all movie files such as mov mpeg divx avi etc and never have a problem if for some rare chance you have any problems all you have to do is type in the extension that wont play such as AVI DIVX OR MOV into the search field in add/remove and you will get some solution..AND JUST IN CASE TYPE IN GSTREAMER and click and choose all gstreamers.  everything will work fine after that type in VLC in search field and install VLC and you should have a movie playing machine unlike any other.

  4. I am currently using mandriva from http://www.mandriva.com
