  1. Well, the obvious answer would be Hi Def Discs because they are professionally sold in stores. While some HD Downloads may be good, they may be sold by some amateur filmmaker. Im taking it that when you are talking about an HD Download, you want to watch it on your computer. But you must remember that the video you are watching on your computer is ONLY as good as your monitor/screen. So if your monitor or screen is not HD compatible, then you are out of luck.

Also, try investing in Blu-Ray. So far, Blu-Ray is winning the Hi-Def vs. Blu-Ray format war. Just keep an eye on the HD Disc vs. Blu-Ray format war to see which is better off investing in. But, from the current standpoint, Blu-Ray is your best bet =]

  2. Blu-ray and HD DVD disks ... as you know ... provide up to 1080p output. Most downloads are lower resolution than that (at best 1080i) and compressed more than HD disks.

Therefore, in general Blu-Ray and HD DVD will look better than downloads.

That said, whether and how big a difference you will see will depend on the quality of the download (resolution, compression, colour space, colour depth), the display you are using (resolution, size), and the distance you view from.

For example if you were watching a 37" 720p HDTV at 8 feet you probably won't see any difference between an HD disk and almost any HD download (just as you wouldn't see any appreciable difference (except possibly colour) from upconverted DVD.

So, HD disks won't look worse, but they may not look better.

    Hope that helps.

  3. downloads are always a lower quality

  4. I assume you're speaking of the downloads from the 360. If that is the case then I can tell you that a disc format will outperform the download. The download still looks good, but not as clear and crsip as a disc.
