  3. It depends. If the moon rises at dawn with the sun, it will be a new moon, but if the moon had risen some time earlier, it could be anywhere between new and full. If the moon is setting as the sun is rising, it's a full moon. If the moon is at the zenith at sunrise, it's last quarter, and if it's at zenith at sunset, first quarter.
