  1. For taking of the small part of things, you can get 50 or 60 mm macro lens.

For taking flowers, insects or flower- insect, get 100mm macro lens with a bit more distance. This is given sharp images.

For taking animals, should get 180mm macro lens. Thiss a # 1 of canon macro lenses, (f/3.5 , L series, the most Expensive lens ).

However, if you can reach 180mm it will work perfect at all.

  2. The macro lens i've got is a Sigma 50mm f/2.8 Macro, If you've got a relatively small budget i would strongly recommend this lens as its a great lens with 1:1 Ration, and its priced relatively cheaply to other lens.

  3. What subjects are you shooting ... if you are doing a lot of copy work, the 60 mm would be the best choice.  If live animals the 180 mm would be better ... more distance from you and the subject.

  4. I use the Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 USM Macro with my XTi... I love this lens! With a longer focal length, it gives me more room to work with... and it's pretty quiet, so I don't scare away bugs and insects as easily.
