  1. Travelling from Ashford means you'll arrive at Charing Cross. From there, get the tube to Kensingston High Street and then its about a six minute walk.

  2. There are trains from Ashford to several London mainline stations (London Bridge, Charing Cross, Victoria and Waterloo).

Victoria gives you the quickest route to Kensington Palace.

South Eastern trains run between Ashford International station in Kent and London Victoria station. They run an hourly direct service, with trains leaving Ashford at five minutes past the hour.

If you're booking tickets in advance, I'd recommend thetrainline. -- http://www.thetrainline.com. Nice easy booking site, with really clear search options. Cheap day returns start from £19.60 (plus small fees for booking and ticket collection.)

Thetrainline lets you buy a London Transport one-day travel card on the same booking (£5.30 for zones 1 & 2, which is all you'll need.) That saves you queueing again when you reach Victoria.

From Victoria to Kensington Palace, you take the Circle line tube to High Street Kensington station, a few minutes' walk from Kensington Palace. You need a train heading for Edgware Road.

Transport for London has a really good journey planner so you can see the London section of your trip for yourself (click on the little map icons). http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XS...

Have a great day -- love from a Londoner born and bred.
