  1.   United, Southwest, and  Jetblue allow children over 11 to travel unaccompanied without supervision or the extra fee.    Continental, Frontier, Northwest, American all require the child to be 15 to fly unsupervised and without the extra fee.

  2. Alaska will allow a 14 year-old unaccompanied without a fee.  The key though is that the flight has to be an Alaska or Horizon operated flight, so if the flight is an Alaska flight number but it's on an American (or other) aircraft you wouldn't be eligible.

United will also allow 14 year-olds on unaccompanied without a fee.  The same caveat applies - the flights need to be operated by United, United Express, or Ted.  Codeshares on US Air (or another) airline with a United flight number wouldn't be eligible.

Other airlines which might work are JetBlue and AirTran.

    Good luck and safe travels!

  3. On airtran: Children must be at least (5) years of age to travel unaccompanied, and may do so on any flight that carries them directly to their destinations without a change of aircraft. Any children at least eight (8) years of age may travel unaccompanied, even if their itinerary involves a change of aircraft. Unaccompanied minors will not be accepted on the last flight of the day.

Each unaccompanied child travels at the regular adult airfare plus an unaccompanied minor charge of $39 for nonstop flights and $59 for connecting flights each way

  4. United does allow children at that age to fly on their own, without paying for the unaccompanied minor service.  You then have to keep in mind that without paying for this service, she is treated more like an adult flying on her own.  There is no one to help take her to any connecting flights, and she will have to find whomever is picking her up at the airport on her own.
