My family and I are going on a "around the world" tour and one of the guidelines for the trip is you must cross both oceans, therefore, we need to pick some city in Asia to visit (Sydney and Auckland are both probably not possible). Off the top of my head I thought of Beijing, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

We want a city that is SAFE for tourists and that we can see many sights in, in about three days. We also want a city with decent shopping and excellent food is a must. We love food and would love to try anything new but also have some basic western food.

Thanks Again.

  1. What about some cities in India?

Those 3 you named are really good too! Tokyo is amazing.

  2. If you go to Asia you must go to Bangkok . It' just an amazing eye capturing city.

  3. I've been to Beijing and it is amazing. The air is very smoggy and you will blow black boogers, but it is safe and the food is amazing. The people are also very friendly. They love to practice their English with you.

There are several large markets, including the Pearl market. These are multi-story centers with a flea market atmosphere. You barter for your goods and can get some great deals. Some of the stuff is counterfeit, but supprisingly, most of it is pretty good quality. There's also your modern city shopping available with all the brand names.

  4. Well... Hongkong is one of the nicest place to go to...

    hope this article helps...

  5. I recommend Hong Kong and Tokyo. HK has all that you need. A lot of the people there also speak English. There is so much history.

Beijing is great too, except it's the Olympics and the price may not be worth it, unless you got it like that. There may be a little more chaotic then usual. However, it's still a beautiful place with lots of very Ancient History and sites to see.

Hope you enjoy your trip, no matter where you decide to go. :)

  6. I would add Singapore to the list.

  7. yeah, everyone wants to visit tokyo and if you are white they will LOVE YOU lol. its very safe. people hold your bags for you on the subway if you have your hands full. i'm not shitting you. food is obviously yummy and there are plenty of touristy stuff to do. its also very bright lights and technological. subways are soo nice and clean. they have a walking vending machine. they have condom, hot food, underwear, live fish, umbrella, p**n vending machines.

also.. its not on your list.. but seoul is like the tokyo no one knows about. also really clean and friendly to foreigners. cool and strange stuff there too.. things you would say "wow, only in asia"= rooms filled with computers and teenagers playing computer games and 24/7, a bar kept at 10 degrees and that  gives you moccasins, a fur lined poncho and gloves so that you can drink your beverage from an ice block, a hello kitty museum. lol. and there are like palaces and gardens and amusement parks. mountains to climb up, buildings with great views (63 building)... a celebrity sighting everyday lol.

both cities have all the fast food places and western restaurants but the western restaurants are expensive and the western food tastes not western... like spaghetti made with ketchup.

  8. Tokyo is great, but within Japan, Osaka is generally considered to be the foodie city.  Osaka is also only about an hour's train ride from Kyoto (capital of Japan from about 9th through 19th century) and Nara (capital of Japan before Kyoto).  As far as sights to see, Kyoto is amazing!  Ancient temples, shrines, castles, and torii everywhere.  One guy actually apologized to me because the temple we were at had been burned down and was rebuilt "only" 500 years ago.  Osaka is also not *that* far by train from Hiroshima, which is truly an experience.  With all the talk in the news about Iran and Israel possibly having a nuclear confrontation...going to Hiroshima will really affect your perspective.  I'm not ashamed to say I cried like a little girl there.

I have not been to Beijing or HK.  You might also consider Taipei, Bangkok, Singapore (Anthony Bourdain refers to Singapore as "Asia 101", easy for beginners), Kuala Lumpur, Delhi, or Bombay.  I've been to Delhi and Bombay and they were very interesting, if a bit overwhelming.

  9. Carefully designed Beijing tour itineraries ensure a  perfect combination of historic culture and modern civilization. Enjoy your trip to this charming city by visiting the famous Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Great Wall, Summer Palace, as well as the Beijing Opera and a Roast Duck Dinner...
