  1. Although you seem insistent that the word "digress" applies to these sentences, it doesn't make sense in either sentence.  The meaning of the word digress:  to turn aside.  You are trying to use a word that doesn't apply.  To digress is to get off topic, to completely get off the subject while writing or talking, it would be impossible to digress while reading unless you are daydreaming and NOT reading.

A more appropriate example of what you are trying to say would be:

As the reader continues further into the story, the plot seems to become a more relevant subject for the remainder.

    Best Wishes.

  2. Digress is to go backwards or deviate so neither sentence makes sense.  I agree with the first person that delves is a better choice of words at least for the small example you provided.  I would suggest simply saying "but as the reader becomes more immersed into the story the plot.......".

  3. If this is something you are writing, it is best to write in short, concise sentences.  Also try to write in the present tense.  It makes for better reading (and writing).  For example:

The plot becomes more relevant as the story progresses.

  4. the first one.

  5. The second one, but you are using the word "digress" incorrectly. Digress means to deviate from the subject at hand. I think the word you want is "delves."
