  1. If you are a female, running will make your legs (thighs) skinnier. Being in the water causes the body to burn blood sugars before stored fat. It's probably due to the relatively cooler temperature of the water that causes a female swimmers body to want to become more buoyant in the water, thus bulkier thighs. You will probably burn similar amount of calories but you will get a better cardio workout swimming and loose your body fat else where, like your back and chest.

  2. i think swimming but it makes ur back wider.. but both make ur legs muscular

    ☺

  3. it all depends on your body type. really, it does. some people just have bigger legs. but to "tone" your legs, try doing leg exercises that are light weight bearing, rather than heavy leg presses and stuff. high repetition, low weight tones, low repetition, heavy weight enlarges. i personally would say swimming because swimming is much more of an all around body exercise: core, legs, arms, shoulders, back, while cross country... is more waist down and that's it. swimming is also a really fun thing in the summer, to get to go down to the pool, swim, etc. either will work, though.

  4. I am almost positive the best one would be competitive swimming. Cross country would build muscles up in your legs and make them tight and thick. Swimming isn't that 'rough' or focused on your legs, and would benefit your whole body as well.

  5. Swimming would make your legs skinnier. Running cross-sountry makes them bigger by building up muscles while swimming increases your metabolism while not building up muscles like running would. I think either way you'd both lose fat and gain muscle but swimming would make your legs look skinnier than if you did cross-country.

  6. Both will make your legs large with muscle.

It depends on which part of the legs, running makes your thighs really big with muscles, swimming, I am good swimmer, but I really don't like it, so I don't know about that.

And, muscle and fat weigh pretty much the same. Muscle is just more dense, and thus, will be more heavy with less visible then fat.

  7. neither , both will build muscle mass. muscle is lighter but has more mass than fat

  8. running does

  9. cross country. Swimming is based more on upper body and shoulders than legs. Though I suppose after running forever you would get muscles of steel, but your legs would be in better shape.

My experience - in highschool I was an all-american swimmer. I'm a freshman in college who just shattered two records here. I can barely run 1/2 a mile without wheezing and complaining.

To the person who answered above me, muscle is HEAVIER than fat, but also more dense. Think of the analogy of packing peanuts to bricks.

  10. Swimming is the best workout!

  11. I dont know which will make your legs "skinnier" but it will make them leaner and toned, definetly, and both will do, also that's not true about swimming well for girls it BROADENS the shoulders so you tend to look a tad bit muscular which DOES NOT look BAD, but you can't widen your back and it can't directly effect your structure since it's genetic.

  12. competitive. manily b/c you do it year round.
