I have a fairly Mesomorphic build and I want to start a new martial art I would Like to do something with a more offensive style and something that flows similar to kung fu.. I have studied Southern Mantis and Ju jitsu before but I want to go back to my roots and start over like I had never had experience in a martial art.. I was looking at Northern Shaolin Kung fu but is fairly hard to find a teacher I am looking for schools in northwest oregon and southwest washington but any advice someone can give....

  1. Here is something I wrote on Aikido.  Sounds like that may be the answer for you.  Aikido flows well by re-directing attacks.

This art emphasizes on mastering martial arts so that one may receive an attack and harmlessly redirect it. In an ideal situation, not only is the receiver unharmed but so is the attacker.

The term aiki describes the principle of blending with an attack and redirecting it. Optimal rythm and timing help the martial artist defend the attack and apply a counter technique. This could involve a strike, throw, or joint manipulation.

Although strength, flexibility, increased energy and awareness can result from studying this art, it is not a necessary requirement. This is a reason many people can continue to practice the art's techniques well into later stages of life. Making this martial art unique compared to many other martial arts styles in that it's main philosophy is to not meet force with force. Instead, as said before, an absorbing force is applied to an attacking force.

My sifu teaches Northern Shaolin Kung Fu in south Texas.  I know thats a stretch from Oregon.  But give him a call.  He has been studying and teaching for most of his life and his master is truly a shaolin monk in Houston...Master s**+ De Shan.  He may know someone or point you in the right direction.  His name is Scott Kimak.
