  1. When I first read your question I thought that you just did not know anything about the martial arts. As I read more I realized that you are asking for something that exist only in the movies. no one wins against seven attackers.  Besides I'm still wondering what the comment about a back flip has to do with self-defense???

  2. i believe there is no better martial art than another. but in my opinion i reckon tae-kwon-do, it is the world's fastest moving martial art, it's a bit like karate but faster. i do it my self. and it is also crucial to find a good teacher!

  3. I do World Tang Soo Do.  I have to learn many things and its a great workout you have to be dicipined I am just saying i have done i for the past 4 years.  You would have to try different styles of martail arts to see which is the best.

  4. i learned tai chi it was the best thing i've ever done there r some websites on how 2 do it but i went to go and see a real person and yes tai chi will help u do a backflip good luck~axel

  5. Well, I'd look to something quick and easy to learn....Or you could give them all bus tickets to Boston, we would give them a traditional Sayaret welcome.

If you live in the south, and it sounds like it, because we don't have a signifigant KKK presense here in the Northeast, just a few basement wannabes, afraid to come out in the light.

I teach Krav Maga, but to learn how to defend against 7 would take some really intense prep mentally and physically.  These are the kinds of things we can't teach in America.  The time for prep ( 90 days X 16 hours a day) we just don't have.   Combat Hapkido or Combat SAMBO  are both good, as they will introduce you to lethality from day 1 and you will learn how to inflict pain.

People like this are usually cowards, if you grab one and inflict a little pain, then maybe the others will back off, these people attack in groups because they are fearful as individuals.

You want to learn backflips, join gymnastics.

  6. The truth is, there really isn't a "best" martial art style. It all depends on what you are looking for, how effective the teacher is at training you, and how hard you work to perfect your skills. Some martial arts styles stress street combat, others stress sports skills and competition, others stress internal energy or chi, while still others are traditional arts that stress perfection of technique, self discipline and etiquette.

The best style out there for you is the style that helps you meet the goals you have set for yourself, and that pushes you to take your skills to the next level. If that means full contact training, then you need styles that can give you that. Just because a style doesn't focus on whatever it is you are interested in doesn't make it a bad style, it just makes it not the right style for you.

That's a question that only you can answer, maybe with a little help of your physician (in determining whether you should practise martial arts at all).

While some people advocate that "my style fits any individual", it is very debatable if any single individual would adapt to any style.

It depends heavily on your objectives, but remember, these may change with time. Many people who begin martial arts training strictly to learn self-defence become quite interested in other aspects as their training progresses.

    What are you looking for?

For instance, if you are looking for "on the street" self-defence training Taiji or Kendo might not be your first choice. Some suggested choices:

    Jujitsu

    Hapkido

    Some Gongfu styles

    Karate

    Ken(m)po

    Baguazhang

    Tang Soo Do

    Muay Thai

    Tae Kwon Do,

    Tai-jutsu (popularly known as 'ninjutsu').

    Kali/Escrima/Arnis (Filipino style).

    Silat (Filipino style).

    Xingyiquan.

    Sorry for the 'long answer'.

  7. Martial art will and not help you do back flips wanna learn back flips go and join a gymnastic class the best way to learn back flips and other fancy moves.

It doesnt matter what martial art style you learn as long as you got yourself a good teacher, not those that go to grading and pays $$$$$ for there ranks and certificates.

And ppl out there prob know what I,'m talking about

  8. I have been practising Krav Maga for almost a year. It is an Israel Military self defense. Common practice now though is more of a street self defence. I suggest Krav Maga over any other forms of martial art.

  9. Martial Arts is much more then a self defense lesson. You can learn discipline and how to avoid the situation so that the fight will never start and if you dedicate yourself and dont just go to learn a backflip then maybe someday after years of dedication, determination you will learn the spirtuality aspect of it and become very at peace in your mind

  10. Only if you plan on learning Capoeira. Most martial arts don't focus on acrobatics.

I'm not really sure which martial arts would provide you with enough knowledge in a short amount of time to defend against a gang bashing.

Jiu Jitsu can offer you strength and the ability to subdue somebody one to one. Aikido and Wing Chun can offer the "slip" methods to quickly slip through punches, kicks etc, and counter with quick responses..but they take a fair bit of training to get to a point where these techniques are truly useful. Kick boxing, Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, all offer kicking and punching...and can be quite agressive, but again take a bit of training to be effective in the street. Karate (depending on the style), can offer some basic self defence moves.

Perhaps a look through your local yellow pages, or even better a trip to your local martial arts supply store. (the guys in there are usually pretty knowledgeable about all the local styles and will ALWAYS have an opinion to give you about fighting styles!) Choose a style that specialises in self defence and go from there.

BTW..Capoeira is a lot of fun! So is Jiu Jitsu, so I highly recommend them if you are after full on, energy plus, martial arts!

Oooh Manda M makes a great point..Silat is an awesome art to learn, and so so effective!! Good one Manda!

  11. If you think you might get attacked by 7 guys then maybe you should consider taking up sprinting!

  12. You serious?  I could say there is no best martial arts to learn, which is true in my opinion but if you are street fighting?  h**l, I'd say Krav Maga or Systema but that's hard to come by and learn (unless you know a place that teaches those self defense techniques).  You really don't have to learn a martial art to do a backflip, they do that in dancing too ^_^.  Anyways, just choose whatever you martial arts you'd like to practice, though my advice is to steer clear away from fights in the first place . . . but if you are cornered, Krav Maga or Systema or even Jiu Jitsu is something you might want to take up for self-defense (or Mixed Martial Arts if you want an all around feel of protection).  Kung Fu or Karate ain't bad either, I just think you might want something that's brutal and full of awesomeness like Po from Kung Fu Panda.  Blind your enemies from over-exposure to pure awesomeness!  *ahem* . . . so yeah, or learn from a gang of Pirates or Vikings and they might teach you some crucial $/-/*t  cuz.  Okay, the last 3 sentences, don't take me seriously XD!

  13. Take stick fighting, find an escrima or kali silat school. About the only art with the chance of staking off 7 people enough to give you a chance to run.

Wushu has lots of acrobatic moves and will help you learn to do a backflip. Although backflip itself doesn't have anything to do with Martial Art but more with your athleticism

  14. I really have to tell you that there is currently no martial art that will allow you to win against 7 people. That being said almost any martial art, if taught right and trained well can give you an advantage and maybe help you get out of the situation without too much damage being done.

As mentioned above Krav Maga is a self defense system that is used by the Israeli military, and is very dtraightforward and effective. Be aware that I do not know what it is like in Australia, but in America a lot of what is passed off as Krav Maga is actually total c***. Since it's become popular seems like one has popped up on every street corner. Make sure that if this is what you take that you check the instructors credentials out very well.

Kali or one of the other Philipino martial arts would be good too, but be aware that you will start out learning weapons, which may be illegal to carry in your country.

Another choice might be some form of Okinawin karate. Okinawin karate is generally straight forward and very effective. A lot will depend on what is availible in your area.

My best advice is to not worry so much about style. Rather worry about finding the best instructor you can in your area, that has a school that trains realisticly, with progressive resistance or "aliveness" as it is called now days. In the end no style can fight for you, all it can do is give you the tools to do so.

As for the back flip, no martial art that is going to be effective for self defense is going to be able to teach you that.
