Question:

Which martial arts style is the most powerful/aggressive?

Which martial arts style teaches you not only how to defend yourself, but also straight up fighting techniques? I'm also looking for a form that doesn't revolve around one aspect of defense. I don't want to learn Tae Kwon Do because the main focus is kicking.

I'm looking for a style that utilizes both lower and upper body strength and movements. I'm more interested in the upper body moves than I am in kicking moves.

Thanks so much!

  1. Kyokushin karate ( bare knuckle training)

    muay thai

    judo

    and more.

  2. Here are a few you might want to look into.

    Kajukenbo

    CHA 3 kenpo

    Kyokushin karate

    Muay thai

    Eskrima

    Hung gar kung fu

    Danzan ryu jujitsu

  3. Well I have read all the answers so far and I am sorry to say how sad I am so far. Every one knows there is no one best style or better style

It comes down to you choosing the proper teacher that is teaching what you wish to learn and the only way to find that out is to go out and check the schools out, try some lessons if they offer them for trial and after a few of them I am sure you can find one that is exactly what you are looking for.

The reason I state this is every school is practically different and some are sport martial arts, others are mcdojos, some are real real hard, others are real good. So its not the style it is the school and teacher. That is what you need to be looking for a good quality teacher!

Good luck feel free to email if you have any questions.

  4. THE ART U ARE LOOKING FOR IS 'SHITO-RIYU'.IT IS VERY EFFECTIVE PAST HISTORY'S HAS EVEN PROVED IT .IT'S FOUNDER WAS KENWA-MOBINI.

U CAN EVEN SEARCH THE INFORMATION IN 'AIKF' SITE  (ALL INDIA KARATE FEDERATION).

  5. Well not one style doesnt teach you everything.  Tae - kwon- do just doesnt focus on kicking it also focuses on upper body techniques.  Taking more than one type of martial art would be a good idea because if you take a style that focuses on kicking and another that focuses on hand techniques you will have it made.  I can tell you first hand that taekwondo focuses using your opponents momentum against them and we normally dont focus on kicking granted that it is a mixed martial arts school.

  6. i agree with wulf troll ripper.it makes me sad not only with this question but many others when ppl pretend thier martial arts experts and you read some of thier answers.no wonder so many ppl have such a poor view of martial arts and martial artists.

  7. Shotokan.

  8. You definitely want MMA.

TKD, karate, kung fu... really any system with kata or forms is a waste of time.  Forms won't prepare you for fighting and take up a lot of class time.  Plus, just because the school teaches forms,  it means the instructor either 1) doens't think self defense is the focus of the system or 2) has his head completely up his ***.

    So don't do those.

Boxing is too limited by your criterion, muay thai too much in the lower body.

MMA combines boxing, muay thai, wrestling and jujitsu into a powerful whole that can overwhelm any single system.

If you want something more street oriented though, try Krav Maga.

    Have fun!

  9. You might be interested in Muay Thai, but you need to find a style that suits you.

  10. There is none !!!

It's mainly what you can adapt to and feel comfortable in using.

    I'd suggest....

    Jiu-jitsu

    Aikido

    Judo

    Boxing

    Karate

    Hope this helps :)***

  11. MMA, it involves stand up skills like Thai boxing and boxing and ground game like wrestling and jiu jitsu, also judo, it involves anything you might encounter in a fight, there is probably a gym near you that you can train it.

  12. It depends on what you are looking for if its pure stand-up then i suggest muy thai because it teaches sound defense with both the upper and lower body.  It is also good hard body training meaning that your bones will be able to take more punishment because leg kicks are brutal.  If you want to incorporate ground fighting then its gotta be BJJ with a little wrestling to learn take downs as BJJ focus' mostly on what to do already on the ground.  If you want it all then you gotta cross train and do them all.

  13. Kenpo seems like a good style with more use of the hands than feet. From what I've seen/read, it's got alot of different hand strikes, low kicks, and takedowns

Only thing that seems to be missing is groundfighting, but  Kenpo place I'm thinking of joining also has Shootfighting--that should help me with groundfighting. (Yes, I know Shootfighting has punches and kicks--but the main reason I'll try it will be for the ground techniques)

As for TKD, it depends on the type of TKD. I've done both ITF and WTF  TKD, and ITF focuses almost equally on hands and feet-- seems more like karate. And in both styles, I learned some Hapkido techniques (that was the self-defense part of the classes).

Kali/Arnis/Escrima also looks interesting to me--and a bit painful. lol  Training to fight with knives and sticks...that strikes me as pretty agressive.  I think they learn some hand-to-hand stuff, too.

But really, just about any martial art can be powerful/agressive, depending on how it's used.

  14. SUMO answer is self explanatory based on the wording of the question.

There isn't any one art you can point to as "most powerfull aggessive" as those are personal attributes you develope irregardless of which method you chose.

But based on the requirements you state agressive powerful upper body technique no kicking SUMO is the only answer based on those criteria .Reading your question and then telling you you should take muay thai or TKD means either they didnt read the whole question or didn't understand it if they did.Usually when these questions are asked but no specifics are given .I have answered according to those specifics.
