Which material is good for boats?

what is fiberglass? is it strong? is steel good? would rust appear quickly? and what kind of paint do they use on steel boats? I'm worried if its fine for the environment.

  1. Fiberglass is a good bet.  Aluminum is good but tends to leak at the seams.  Wood can be good for do it yourself projects.  Don't worry about steel.

    Fiberglass: is actually a combined product of fiberglass material and a resin to produce a strong building material.

    Steel is great for larger ships, not so much for smaller personal boats.

    Fiberglass will be gel coated which can have colors added to your desire.  You should not have to paint for many years if maintain with a good cleaning and wax.  

    Steel ships are always being pained.  The best paints I have found are a two part epoxy type with great adhesion.  Some of these paints are great for years - but it depends on the area that they are used in, high traffic deck areas may need a refinishing once a year or more. Rust can be a problem and needs to addressed as soon as possible.

    Bottom paints are today safe for the environment,
