  1. Deenie, I think you may be selling some of our skeptics way too short. Most of them have been respectful and decent to most believers. They certainly have a different opinion about parapsychology and the paranormal, but few of them suggest that there is a disorder affecting believers. At the end of the day we all interpret our experiences in our own ways. Skeptic or believer, things don't look the same to people. We are all entitled to our viewpoint, provided it is not malicious.

If it should happen that an intelligent skeptic has an experience that proves to them PSI phenomena occur, it wouldn't surprise me if such a person finds evidence and makes discoveries others would not.

Skepticism is not an enemy attack. It is a way of looking at things.

  2. Deenie, if the shrinks of the world wanted to medicate every person who believed in the paranormal, more than half the worlds population would be in the loony bin...and I'd be one of the first ones captured *scary**

  3. As long as a person's beliefs don't motivate actions that are harmful to himself or others and as long as he's not traumatized by his belief system, I don't think any medication should be prescribed.  Medicine should be deliberately applied to address identifiable and treatable pathologies.

  4. I think hypnotizing them is enough...haha

  5. A good dose of high school science and critical thinking.  Don't just assume it's a ghost or a demon or Bigfoot - go check!  Don't just assume that guy can cure cancer with salt water - ask him for a double-blind study!  Know how to evaluate claims without just accepting everything at face value, and you'll be a lot harder to scam.

  6. If a psychiatrist is so poorly trained that he or she mistakes a patients paranormal experience as a sign of psychosis (like calling seeing a ghost a psychotic hallucination)  he or she will most likely prescribe one of the many now available anti psychotics. Of course if a person meets the full criteria for psychosis then medication can be helpful.

    Psi

  7. A injection of lithium everyday should do it.

  8. I think only medical doctors who can physically examine their patients should be prescribing any medication for them. I can only offer suggestions. Do you have high blood pressure? Take a blood pressure med. Do you have high cholesterol? Take a cholesterol drug. Consult with your doctor. That's really all the advice I can offer.

Edit:  Sounds like you're reacting to some mean things somebody said.  I'm wondering who your question is targeted to. Is it any of the skeptical regulars here? As far as I know, the skeptical regulars here don't really use the "you need medication" reply or believe it to be the case. Perhaps others might. (I don't mean to speak for anyone, just my impression)

    Edit: Incognito, well said  :)

  9. Doctors are ignorant and don't know anything as much as they think they do about the paranormal. Something that they can't explain scares them and makes them question everything about themselves and what they believe in. It would be nice for a ghost to scare a doctor skeptic.

  10. I don't think they necessarily need any medication. If it isn't doing them any harm to believe, there is no reason to medicate.

  11. Your giving the Psychologists too much credit.  They do not give you drugs for being a real psychic.  Only for being Psychotic.  Big difference.

I have 20 years experience in the Psychological field of, being in their office.  They don't give you any drugs if you can shake hands and tell them something no one else would know unless you are for real.  After that your a research subject...sometimes they will test by giving you a pill.  Yet if you are any good, they'll just bill the State for the imformation they can get out of ya.

Maybe you should ask...what pill would be suggested that would turne a sceptic into a psychic...Adivan.

  12. The 'Skeptics' should be prescribed LSD ;P
