Which miso do you like the best?

Aka miso? Shiro miso? Awase miso? Or something else?

Which brand do you recommend?

Whatsoever, standard ones are everything OK but even instant miso is fine. It is easy to cook.

Not all  of  more expensive miso taste better than cheap ones for me.

I prefer light color and light smell ones to dark and heavy ones though.

I like homemade aka miso best. I hate the instant stuff-it's so salty it's high blood pressure in a bowl.

Aka miso, love it. There's a shop in Takayama that makes their own miso (all 3 kinds). You can taste samples in the store. I try to buy from there whenever I get the chance.
