  1. You can fly Ryan Air from Madrid to Rome Ciampino airport for around €35 Euros INCLUDING TAXES.  The flight takes about 1.5 hours.  Check www.ryanair.com.  There are easy connections from Ciampino Airport to Roma Termini via the train at www.trenitalia.com.

  2. TRAIN

http://www.trenitalia.com  Use the International link.  I would recommend a railpass for this trip http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/fares_...

Rome to Nice , France  8-10 hours w/ one change

Nice to Barcelona, SP.  11-12 hours w/one change; you would have to stay overnight in Nice and catch the train in the morning.

After arriving Barcelona , stay overnight. Take the train in the morning  From Barcelona to Madrid

    BARCELONA-ESTACIO DE FRANCIA

    MADRID-PUERTA DE ATOCHA

Either at 7 in the morning or 9 in the morning or later.  4.5-5 hours on train (on the TLG which I assume is their fast train.) no changes

Flying from Rome to Madrid----Is cheaper
