Which models of Honda trail bikes are also street legal?

I'm looking for a good quality used off road bike 400cc or smaller that is also street legal. I also need it to run OK at altitudes of 8-10,000 feet and be able to carry two people. I'd like to buy one from the mid-80's and any info as to which models are the best as well as info on Yamaha, Suzuki, or other models from other manufacturers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Really easy to convert to street legal. Lights/horn and certified VIN inspection and pay a fee at county clerk.

In the 80's there were two street legal Honda off road models the XL350 and the XL500.  The equivalent Yamaha models are the XT350 and XT500.  Suzuki didn't make any equivalent models for sale in the US during that period.  However later on they started selling a street legal DR650 in 1990.
