I lived in Jaipur for one year and got to know the state of Rajasthan quite well.  I visited the many of forts, temples, and palaces in the state.  I would have to say that I was most impressed with Udaipur's hotel in the middle of the lake.  

After nearly a year in Rajasthan, I visited the Taj Mahal and was not overly impressed.  It just looked like just another monument by that time and I think it is over-rated.
