  1. You wouldn't see the moon, and if you were somewhere else on the globe during that time, it would be a new moon.


  2. When you said moon was closest to sun, you'll find them together (I am not using the words 'seeing them together'). That being the case do you see sun in the midnight (with moon close by or vice versa)?

    When moon is closest to sun that phase is called 'new moon' (if you are familiar with the traditional Indian 'Panchangam' (Almanac) then you'd know it) when you will be presented with the unilluminated half of the moon. Conclusion is you wouldn't see moon even if it is there in the sky.

    It doesn't matter whether you are on equator or not. But if you are within the Arctic circle in 'summer/day' time, then you would see sun all the time of the 24 hours (and succeeding many 24-hour periods), but moon will show its dark hind-side half that you'll not notice, being next to dazzling sunlight, anyhow.
