  1. Maybe a black fox?

  2. it looks out of place for wyoming   . i would send the photo to the park commission or to the state park dept and see what they have to say , i bet they would be interested in the photos as well .

  3. I'm going with black fox too.

If I saw one around here (Los Angeles), I'd think it was a coyote-dog hybrid.

  4. He is very interesting. We saw a similar fox, but much lighter coat with more reddish tone to it. He was along the Yellowstone River near LeHardy Rapids. We have seen red fox throughout the park on many occassions, so they don't just stick to the higher mountains. There was a lot of winter carrion along the Firehole Drive this year so it's possible he/she was scavenging off one of the carcasses.

The Yellowstone Science Magazine posted a report about the Yellowstone Fox in 2002. The information is here: http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/up...

You should send the link to your photos to park biologists. They will be interested in seeing what you saw!

  5. A kind of dog or something.

  6. I don't know but it is pretty cool looking. Kind of looks like a fox or a coyote.
