Which name: Laura or Amelia

Question

So i'm trying to reinvent myself, i can't decide though which name to go by. I've been going by Laura my whole life so it would be an abrupt change if i went by my middle name, Amelia. I do kind of like the nicknames millie, mellie, mel, and elle though. Just it's a tossup. Which would you prefer?

I think you should go with Elle, or look up the meanings of each name and choose by the meanings. If you are tired of Laura, just switch to Amelia or like I said, Elle. You can even make up a name and go by that, and use it as your nickname. Good luck!

Both are fine names.  You are the one who has to live with it,

so the final choice should be yours.

You put the question here in genealogy, perhaps by mistake.

But the fact you are even asking makes me think you really aren't ready to change your name yet.

All the new people that you meet introduce yourself as Amelia,that way you'll be known as both.......Blessings Yahoo

Of course it's your decision.  I have thought of going by my "Real" name instead of my nickname, especially since my nickname is for children.

My mother is called by her middle name, by family, her first name, by coworkers, and a nick name by my dad and friends.  That was confusing for my husband and now my new son-in-law.

I love the name Amelia. I named my daughter Amy but as a nickname we call her Amelia instead of vice versa.

Maybe you should go by Laura Amelia for a while instead of cutting of one and going to the other.  Be a Texan!  Betty Jo, Jaimie Kay :)
