I like them both, but I prefer Charles over Samuel.

Charles. I think it's a really strong and mature name and also a name that can grow with a person. He could be called Charlie or Chuck. I'm not a fan of Samuel at all.

Samuel means - his name is God

Charles. You can nickname him Charlie for a child name but he can grow into Charles which is a very mysterious and hansome name. Totally not dated, it's a classic unlike Samuel...Samuel just reminds me of the word Mule. Lol.

Charles sounds whiny and dated to me. Samuel, while still a traditional classic name, still has a fresh sound to it.

So I'd go for Samuel.
