Which name do you prefer: Clara or Roberta?

I'm head-over-heels in love with the name Clara, so this is easy!  It's so sweet, so simple, and so old-fashioned, but it fits right in with all the Emma's and Ava's that are so prevalent today.  It's one of those great names that sounds darling on a little girl and charming on a grown woman.  My husband and I have decided this will be the name of our first daughter.  (We're planning to pair it with Anneliese, to honor both our mothers, Anne and Elisabeth.  My favorite combination, though, is Clara Juliette.)

I don't think Roberta is very pretty.  For a similar sound, you might consider the very old-fashioned Rowena.  Clara is still prettier, though!

Hmmm... Not sure I like either of them.

Mildred, Clara, and Ethyl are all in the same ballpark. I don't like that ballpark.

But Roberta has a nice ring to it. Not as nice as a lot of other names I can think of, but definitely better than Clara.

More importantly, think about the full name. Sometimes a nice first name and a nice last name go together to make a lame full name.

Roberta Smith, Roberta Gonzalez, and Roberta Ma (as in Yoyo Ma) all have a different feel. Throw middle names in and it gets even more complicated. Whatever you do, think of the whole name before you choose.

CLARA is definately better than roberta!!  If a Roberta doesn't like her name (and there's a good chance that could happen), what options are there for nicknames...Robbie, Bertie...yuck.

Clara means clear; bright; famous. Roberta  means bright fame. both names kinda mean the same thing you could always name her Clara Roberta if you like both names.
