  1. I like the name Edith better. It sounds old fashioned and sweet. The nickname Eddie is cute as well.

  2. Edith because you can call her Edie, (like Edie Falco).

  3. Honestly, I don't like either one; they're a little too old-fashioned for me.  I always think of Edith Bunker when I hear the name Edith.  Mavis is very Southern sounding, too.

  4. both are old fashion and they will be beat up on the playground

  5. mavis cool

  6. i like Edith, like edie sedgwick

  7. HI!

I am for traditional names, but Mavis, is too old sounding I think, and I don't think she will like her name in the long run.

Edith is kind of cute, I can picture that, but you have to think about how the child is going to feel as a young child with that name, as well as an adult with that name. An adult, no problem, but may not like as a child.  I think it is a name that could definitely grow on someone!

    Good luck to you!

  8. I personally think Mavis is an awesome name. It's so old/worn-out, it's COOL. Edith is alright, it's more normal. A little old fashioned.

The name Mavis is ironic and retro.

  9. I like Mavis.

  10. I prefer Edith, but Mavis could work. With nicknames like Edi and May, I think both are pretty nice. I would suggest something a little more "fresh" for the middle names like Edith Amelia, Edith Faith, Edith Olivia, Mavis Charlotte, Mavis Cora, and Mavis Eve.

  11. i like Mavis it sounds that a lot of people wouldn't have it

  12. I'm not really a big fan of either of them, but if I had to choose...Edith.

  13. neither and ur child won't like them either......pick a different name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I think they are both very unique names!

I prefer Edith though, its really different & it stands out! (:

  15. I don't like either. If I had to pick, I guess Mavis. Edith Bunker is all that comes to mind with that one. I went to school with a girl whose last name was Mavis, so to me it isn't a first name.

But then again that is just my opinion. You should name your child whatever YOU love.

  16. Neither. The first sounds like a name a grandma would have. Not to be critical, but I generally think of a woman with a cane with white hair when I hear "Edith."

  17. I like the name Edith, there are good nicknames like "Eddie, or Eddi" from desperate housewives.  :)

  18. Mavis
