  1. emily.

margaret sounds like a 1800s name

[[no offense to those named Margaret.]]

    xoxo,

    gossipgirl

  2. I prefer Emily.

The nickname for Margaret is "Peggy or Peg"

and I don't care for it.

(I don't mean to insult anyone named

Margaret, but I just don't care for it.)

  3. I prefer Emily to the name Margaret, but Margaret has a billion nickname possibilities:

    - Daisy (daisies in France are called "marguerites" so this is a pretty common nickname)

    - Maggie

    - Greta

    - Marge(y)

    - Mar

Also take into consideration that Emily was the most common baby girl name in '07!

  4. Emily. I considered it, but because of the popularity decided against it. Margaret is pretty, but a little outdated.

  5. definitely emily

  6. Emily would be my choice. Margaret is one of those names that doesn't translate to kids well.  Emily is soooo common though. Ugh.

  7. Emily.

You don't want you kid to suffer with being called Maggit or anything like that...

  8. Emily is my personal fav. you could name her Emillia and call her Emily.

  9. emily because its pretty.

  10. Emily thats what i named my baby ( she is 4 weeks old) and her middle name is Rose after my nan i think emily is a very cute name

  11. Emily.

What about using Margaret as a middle name? Emily Margaret sounds nice

  12. My friend's name is Emily and she hates that her parents called her that. She thinks it's way to overused. I'd go with Margaret, that's very pretty.

  13. Emily, but you should spell it differently. Like, Emileigh or Emilee or Emilie

  14. Emily.

  15. Emily is so cute.

  16. Emily

  17. Emily, my daughter's name is Maggie, but we did not name her Margaret.  We liked just Maggie better.

  18. Margaret is much better than Emily. Every girl I know named Emily I haven't liked. But it's your choice.

  19. If I was to choose between the two, I would go with Margaret.

Most people are going to say Emily. It's a really hot name right now-- Emily has literary connotations, a pretty sound and cool nicknames. However, it seems like too many people have taken a liking to Emily. It's the most popular girls name in the U.S. and various other English speaking countries. This name is beautiful, but it is incredibly common.

On the other hand, Margaret is currently ranked at #173 in popularity. It has a pretty meaning (the name is of Greek origin and means 'pearl'), and it has many historical and literary associations. The name has been bourne by Queens and Saints, as well as many famous authors. The name has a timeless appeal, and many cute nicknames. I particularly like the nicknames Maggie, Mamie, Maisie and Meg.

  20. Emily is way too popular.  Margaret would be preferable, and there are many nickname possibilities if you don't want to use the full name:

    Maggie

    Meg

    Meggie

    Daisy

    Greta

    Maisie

  21. Emily!!

  22. Emily!! It's really cute

  23. Emily definitely. Margaret doesn't sound right to me.

  24. I really love Emily. Emily Margaret would be a cute name.

  25. Depends. Margaret is a good name if you want to call the girl Mary or Maggie which are both derived from Marg.

Plain old Margaret is kind of an old sounding name and Emily is simple.

  26. Emily! Margaret reminds me of an elderly lady I used to work with.
