Question:

Which neighborhood to live in Singapore?

Hello everyone,

I am moving to Singapore in a couple of months to work there, and I was wondering where I should settle down. I am a 26 years old Frenchman, single. My budget would be 1000 SDG per month inc. charges and I would probably go for a small studio. My working place would be in Yishun, in the North... I don't want to be too far from the city center, neither from my office. How about Bishan, Mandai? Are these nice places to live in?

Any advices would be welcome, cheers!

  1. Any place in Singapore is same..the difference is near or far from workplace..staying far a bit problem to go with the public transports in peak hours..if company provide transport no problem in staying within 30 minutes travel..

  2. Bojour...

For 1k do not think that you can get a condo...

I would think if you look hard enough you may find a HDB apartment with 2 bedroom.

Yishun, Sembawang would be the better place to look for. There are lots of place for food and day to day needs.

I stayed in Sembawang for 2 years and was happy with it..

Look around there are plenty of places to explore..

It would be a 30mins drive to town and maybe an hour by MRT.

Dun think you would be heading to town that much..

    Cheers

  3. Hi,

Honestly, 1K is not enough to get yourself a studio in Singapore. A room in goverment unit (HDB) will cost around 400~500. To rent the whole HDB unit will cost around 1200~2000, depending on location and type of unit you choose (3 or 4 rooms unit).

The major "towns" between Yishun and the city are expensive, namely, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan & Toa Payoh.

Maybe you can consider and try your luck in :

Nearer to city (nearer to the south) : Mc Nair Road, Kallang, Balestier, Whampoa

Nearer to Yishun : Sembawang (far north), Woodlands (North), Senkang & Puggol (North east)

Below a good link to Singapore road maps, I hope it helps you.

    Welcome to Singapore... Cheers...

  4. It's a very small country. Everywhere is the same (Not much different). As long as your accommodation closed to MRT , should be alright. The transport system is up to international standard, very efficient and effective.

  5. You can rent a room in yishun around your workplace as you will save on transport fees everyday. The government is now developing yishun into a more vibrant estate to live in so i absolutely recommend that you stay in yishun.
