There is only one answer that is correct. Toyota Camry hybrid. It is in a class by itself.  They did a nice job on that one.

I have a Pontiac G6 and I get over 30 mpg on the highway.  The EPA said I would only get 32, but I often get more than that... probably because I drive exactly at 60 on all highways :)  

She's got 40,000 miles on her and only needed new tires, rear brakes, and oil changes thus far, plus G6's are pretty inexpensive if you get minimal options.  I had also considered the Chevy Malibu, they get over 30mpg on the highway as well.

It's pointless to buy a car with good fuel economy if you're a crazy-type (aka road-rage) driver.  If you have good, sane driving habits check out epa.gov, I think they have listings of all the top 10 cars in each class.
