My wife & I are planning to go on the Carnival Ecstasy on Dec 22 to celebrate our 10yr anniversary(which is Dec 19). It will also be our first cruise. I'm really wondering which of the nights are considered formal? Also we do live in the Houston area, so we'll have family take us to the port as well as pick us up. Any other info on the Ecstasy and the port of Galveston will be helpful.

  1. Cool. look in the today patter, where the events are. it should be in there. you could also go to carnivalcruises.com. there might be info there too.

  2. I am going on a Carnival Ecstasy this month, I am soo excited!

On the 7 day cruises, there will be 2 formal nights, on any crusie under 7 days, there will be 1 formal night. It depends per cruise which night is formal, you should find out exact dates about 2 weeks before you leave.*

  3. If its a 4 or 5 day cruise you will have 1 formal night usually on your first sea day. The port at Galviston is an easy port to get in and out of. Enjoy

  4. We took our family (19 people) on the Ecstasy in 2006.

On the 5-day cruise, Tuesday is the formal night.

They have spent a ton of money improving the cruise terminal and they the embarkation and debarkation process down to an art.  Your family can drop you off but they have to leave immediately after...they don't allow stopping or standing cars.    You won't be able to tell them exactly when you will be de-barking.  There is no set time they start letting passengers off the ship since it requires customs approval.

Your carry-on luggage is subject to search and x-ray, so don't carry on anything you don't want the world to see.

Be sure to have a few dollars in cash to tip the luggage porters.  Also for debarkation, tie brightly colored ribbon, yard or plastic marking flags (from the hardware store) on the handles of your luggage.  There will be a sea of mostly black luggage in the cruise terminal and it takes forever to look at all of the luggage tags.

For de-barkation, hire a porter.  They will expedite you through customs.  Plan for about $1 per bag.

The Ecstasy is a smaller (70 ton) ship, so I felt more motion on her than the other larger ships.

Also, a very neat thing to see is when you arrive back to the Port of Galveston.  The ship has to turn around in the channel. I was up at 6:30 am on our last trip on the Conquest and it is crazy how the turn those huge ships around in the channel.
