  1. i'd say it if someone.....eats too much! like.....i'd be like......come on! your like a glutton...............but i'd say it in a playful way............

or if someone has eaten two big slices of cake and had the last piece as well............and then asked another person for their piece of cake........they could be called a glutton.............or greedy.......either way

  2. A glutton is someone who regularly eats to excess, so you would use it if you are speaking of a person who eats too much. Example:

“In the United States, when Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, they often feel like gluttons after the large meal it is customary to eat.”

The word can be used figuratively as well. One idiom that most people have probably used at some point is, "You are a glutton for punishment." If you say someone is a glutton for punishment, you are saying that he or she enjoys undertaking difficult or unpleasant things.

Gluttony is one of the “seven deadly sins” from Catholicism as well. Gluttony is greed for food, whereas avarice (another of the "seven deadly sins") is greed for money and material wealth.

Here's a little rhyme that might help you remember the meaning:

“A glutton who eats too much mutton will burst each one of his buttons.”
