1. hybrid cars, we have such a huge problem with cars in the world, most people in the western world use them so any development in that area would immediately affect the most people, and perhaps be perceived as something they could have the most impact on.

  2. I like the idea of doing a report on renewable wind energy. It is upbeat and truely an earth friendly source of energy. If you are interested in doing a report on that, email me, and I'll help you get an online interview with a commercial wind turbine technition. My husband works on the commercial wind turbines here in Idaho. He can give you some "insider" information. Note: I'd like you to ask your parents permission that it is ok for you to speak privately with an adult. That's just good form, and good cyber saftey.

If you are interested in something else altogether, you could do a crisis/solution report on Ecoli in our (U.S.A.) meat supply and how this problem could be easily, and almost completely eradicated.

I'll give you a brief rundown on the Ecoli contamination problem.

Beef cattle are raised in confinment situations at feed lots. They have no access to pasture, instead their food is brought to them.

The beef cattle are fed some hay, and a great deal of corn.

Cattle would normally never, ever eat corn (corn does not exsist in the wild).

A cows stomach acid is normally a neutral PH.

The high corn diet causes cattle to have an extremely acidic PH stomach (major heartburn).

This high acid environment is the perfect breeding ground for the Ecoli bacteria.

So the cattle being butchered that were raised on feedlots are filled with potentially leathal Ecoli Bacteria.

It just takes a very tiny bit of the stomach, intestine, or bowel contents to get into a vat of hamburger and infect the entire batch with Ecoli. It's quiet easy for this to happen when some slaughter houses are butchering 400 cattle an hour.

To nearly completely eliminate this potential problem cattle would only need to be switched to an all hay diet for 6 days prior to slaughter. This would drop their stomach PH back down to neutral, and elminate virtually all of the Ecoli in their system.

However because of the close profit/loss margins, and because big business like Monsanto, Cargil & ConAgra (to name a few) would like to have total control over the worlds food supply they use these Ecoli outbreaks to help get fear based laws passed which provide them with even more control of farms and food. Those very same businesses are the main suppliers of the corn seeds, used to plant and grow corn. They do not want to see any loss to their profits.

By the way, I'm a small farmer. That's why I know so much about this topic.

  3. -Renewable energy (wind, solar, hydro)

  4. How about population size? You could show how our need for resources will be strained as more and more people need them.

  5. Interesting! I actually am doing a project like such. I would probably go with renewable energy. I may choose hydro or wind because people may not know as much about it. I think that you want something people can learn from, so I would choose that one.

    For info on renewable energy:

(this is the National Renewable Energy Lab. They have lots of info on most topics like such, however some information is quite complicated!)

    http://www.eia.doe.gov/kids/energyfacts/...

this is an interesting website i found that has illustrated and detailed info on all types of renewable energy. very good when you first start researching!

those are two good websites for starters-

good luck and nice project ideas...

hope it all turns out well!

  6. I would either do shrinking forests or polar ice caps.....

    probably polar ice caps.

  7. I love all of them, but I would go with the shrinking forests.

check into your local (state forests) and find out how bad they are today compared to 25 years a go.

  8. Hybrid cars. The reason: do the research on how much fuel it takes to produce one car vs. how much fuel it saves over it's lifetime. Also, how much fuel it takes to produce ethanol. Ethanol is not the best answer to fossil fuels.

  9. How about urban sprawl and development of farm land?

If bio fuels are going to be the solution to using fossil fuels, then we are going to have to grow them somewhere.
