(select all that apply)

1. the height of a building

2. the velocity of a sports car

3. temperature

4. force

5. the volume of water in a can

6. the ratings of a TV show

7. the age of the Universe

Vectors require both magnitude and direction. I chose 2, 3, 6 because all could have a direction and magnitude. What am I choosing wrong or not choosing?

  1. 2 3 4 5  are  the vector

  2. Vectors:

    2 and 4

None of the others have a direction. Velocity is speed in a direction, force is mass*acceleration in a certain direction. All of the others are scalars (that is, pure numbers without direction).

  3. Vectors have magnitude and direction.

they obey law    of vector additions etc

    1)  scalar

    2) velocity is a vector

    3) temperature  is scalar

    4) vector

    5)scalar

    6)  7) scalar

  4. 2 is a vector because the car is doing 60 mph and going THAT way.

3 is not a vector. It is a scalar. It does not have a direction.

4 is a vector. A force has a magnetude and acts in a certain direction.

    6 is not a vector.

  5. Ahhhh the ol' scalar versus vector quantities.  I get a kick out of the idiot talking head weather personalities who often state (in the midwest mostly) "wind chill factor".  I pose the question to you, what is wrong with this?  In answering my question, you just may discover the answer to yours.
