p traps are the most commonly used.  bells and drum traps are extremely outdated and can really show you the age of the house, they were used in the 50/60's. s traps are slowly being phased out but are still very common. there lagality depends on the state you'll have to check your local plumbing codes.  some states allow them some don't.
