I am desperately trying to figure out how to make all of my fish happy while getting rid of as few as possible of the ones i already own, which are:

1 albino cory

1 silver hatchet fish (i had three, two recently jumped out and died unfortunately. Don't worry, i recently fixed the tank lid so that will not happen in the future)

3 glo fish

3 platys

I love all of them and am having a very hard time with the thought of getting rid of any of those species, but i also want them to be happy more than anything else.

Which of the following is best?

OPTION ONE- (my favorite)

5 silver hatchet fish

2 albino corys

3 zebra glo fish

2 platys

OPTION TWO

4 silver hatchet fish

3 platys

3 glo fish

2 corys

OPTION THREE

4 silver hatchet fish

2 platys

3 glo fish

2 corys

should i stop trying to accomodate platys at all and give them to petsmart?

i keep hearing that i should get five corys, but that just seems like way too many for ten gallons. Would two be enough?

sorry for all the reading and questions!

  1. your favorite i reckon

  2. Platys do do best in hard water but platys are amazingly hardy fish and will be happy and healthy in a tank with soft water too. What I would suggest you do is

    3 Hatchets

    2 or 3 platys

    3 glofish

    3 corys

This will make all of your fish happy!

And I don't think you should get rid of your platys because they are wonderful fish. And corys are happy in numbers 3 and up. 3 Will give them enough to school with.

  3. i think you should have a minimum of hachets. add some glofish and cory. Your platys should go out!!! they need hard water while the other fish you have need soft water.

  4. Michelle has a great point...keep the Platies.  But i would do either all male or all female to avoid lots of fry.

I would only do one top dweller...the 3 Glofish (zebra danios) could go up to 5 easily.  They are not as notorious jumpers as the Hatchets are.

    I would consider

    5 Glofish

    3 Platies

3 Cory Cats (social fish best in minimum 3 or more)...but 3 is great number for a 10 Gallon.  A little stump or even some plant cover will be great with these guys...they like to have hiding spots.

Take the hatchet back to Petco for adoption...when you go and get your 2 other Cory Cats (same type you have).

Either way...the tank wont be completely full but you would have a balanced tank and should be enjoyable and easy to keep.

Petco will take fish for adoption regardless where you get them at.  Petsmart will not, usually.

    Best of Luck!
