I can't make up my mind about which swing I want to register for.

This one is the Graco one.

It's cute, and it matches the travel system I bought, as well as the pack & play. however, the more I think about it, the more it doesn't matter, since the stroller and the swing won't ever be in the same room. lol!

It's one of those back & forth swings.

This is the Fisher Price one.

It swings back and forth as well as side to side.

By the looks of them, which do you think is better?

Also, which do you think I would be able to use longer?

At what age do most babies outgrow swings?

  1. My sister-in-law has the Fisher Price one. The baby LOVES it - she calls it "baby crack". When I was with her in California her daughter (my niece) who was 2 months old at the time would be lulled to sleep in it the second she was put in it. If she woke up and started to be fussy she would just change the direction and the baby would just go right back to sleep.

It is a little large because of the side to side swinging capability but I was totally sold on it.

Since this is my first I cannot answer when most outgrow swings but my mother said I was finished with mine at about 3 or 4 months but for those 3 or 4 months it was a lifesaver. After that she said the next thing that kept me that happy was a bouncer she hung in the door.

  2. Go to Target . com and look at the swings there they are the same swings but include customer reviews ...I just started to look at baby items since I found out I was preggo on Saturday. And I have looked at Toys r us and target....I like both sites target seems a bit more inexpensive.

And as far as the use ...I think most aren't really used after the child is 6 months old.

  3. The bucket seat in our swing (Fisher Price Rainforest) reclines for newborns and sits more upright for older babies.  It is a really nice feature to have.

Check the weight restriction for the swing.  The bigger the better.  Our BIG baby grew out of ours way to early.  I'd still have him in it if I could, they are GREAT for the first months with baby.  I could vacuum underneath while he was asleep in it!

  4. I absolutely love the Fisher Price.  I have used it for 3 of my own babies and several friends have used it for thier babies when they come to visit.  Some seem to prefer one rocking motion over the other, so it's nice to have the option.  It's easy to use and switch from one position to the other.  And a great plus, the music is soothing (not the annoying kind).

  5. If I was able to get a side to side swing, I would have LOVED it for my son. I got a travel swing because it was small enough to fit where I live but it only went bach and forth. However, he liked the swing for a little while. I'd say he stopped using it when he was about 3 or 4 months old. My friend's son had one of the swing that goes side to side and her son LOVED it. He was almost always in the swing because he loved it so much. He used it until he was too big for it (and he was a tiny preemie when he started using it). Now my son couldn't care less for the swing (he's 8 months old now). He'll only tolerate it for about a half hour before wanting to get out of it.

So, I would suggest the Fisher Price one.

As for which one you'd be able to use longer, it will depend on your baby. But I honestly think the Fisher Price one will last longer.

  6. the 2nd one

  7. Could I make a suggestion? You should really try to find one that plugs in, or has a turn crank. They go through batteries like crazy! The big c batteries. They are about $10 a shot. I have a fisher price one, that takes batteries, and plugs in. I purchased it through Sears, after using a friends swing, and spending so much on batteries. Both my girls were no longer interested in the swings at about 6 months of age. Once they became more mobile, they didn't wand to be in it anymore.
