1. A used, older Raleigh road bike with a lug frame, some chips/scratches here and there, but everything still works, for $150.

2. A brand new cruiser bike from Target or Walmart, like a Murray or Huffy, for $129.

  1. Never,EVER buy a bike from Wal-mart or target. They fall apart ridiculously fast because the 17 year olds there dont know how to put a bike together.Go for the Raleigh.

  2. Yes, I question why you compare two different bike types too. In general, the old bike will be better than a new crummy bike any day.

EDIT: OK someone told you to. Well decide for yourself what kind of bike you want. There's a BIG difference between a road bike and a beach cruiser. If you want a cruiser than a road bike ain't no deal.

  3. NEVER EVER get a bike from a department store

They are poorly build and put together and brake very easily

I wouldn't go near one with a ten foot pole

    Definitly go for the Raleigh

  4. well...  IF you want a road bike :

Go with Raleight, old = better build, better steel, parts, everything, if you are lucky can come with  a decent Brooks seat,  but, as a general rule, a used oldie can sometimes present  cracks / bended / warped / misaligned frame, the seat post can be oxidized and stuck in one position ("galvanic welding"), some Raleight  (competition models) from early 70 come with cheap French black derailers,  (derailleurs), and not so popular, (for some guys), by today standards Weimannn brakes.

If  looks ok to you... buy it ! , ignore Target/Wallmart, and enjoy a classic ride.

  5. get the Raleigh .... the old saying, they don't make 'em like they used is true!

  6. The Raleigh will definitley be lighter and probably a better value.  However, it is interesting that you're comparing a road bike to a cruiser.  If you are just going to be using the bike for leisure, than you might actually want to go with the cruiser.  If you're going to use the bike to commute or want to ride fast, you'll probably want the road bike.

  7. The Raleigh - Easily.
