Which of these cars run well on biodiesel & which won't?

I need a small secondhand estate car (about 3 years old) that runs OK on 100% biodiesel. I live near a bio outlet & use it 100% in my present car which runs well but probably won't make the next M.O.T. Do you have any experience of running any of the following on Bio & if so was it good or bad?

Citroen Xsara /Picasso HDI

Ford Focus/Cmax

Kia Carens

Peugeot 206 HDI

Renault Megane/Scenic 1.5

Skoda Fabia

Vauxhall/Opel Astra

any other smallish diesel estate?

  1. If you can find any older Mercedes diesel, that is what I would go.  I have a few friends who bought older benz' and are very happy.

This one is a little old, but interesting article on what you can do with an old benz.

  2. The answer is all of the above, the whole idea behind the original diesel engine was that it could use a variety of things.

  3. I know the Astra deffinately does. My neighbour takes Vegetable oil and pours it straight in his fuel tank. I am guessing he occassionally uses diesel to flush out the system but nevertheless an Astra, older the better, will work fine with differing fuels.

  4. I'm guessing the smaller the car the less haslle.. go for the 206. After years performance can be affacteed however so don't spend too muc on a car.

  5. All cars will work okay on 100% biodiesel.

Biodiesel is processed from vegetable oil using transesterification and has all the properties of mineral diesel oil

If you mean straight vegetable oil, however, that is another matter.  While most diesel cars will run on straight veg oil, some modification to the fuel system may be necessary or you will have to blend it with mineral diesel fuel.
