The saddle which came with my road bike is very painful (even on short rides), so I want to replace it. Which of the following is the best saddle for a road bike?

Any other suggestions for good road bike saddles?

I want to ride long distances so I need a really comfy saddle. I'd like to eventually get into bike touring and riding centuries (100 miles in a day). I already have a touring bike, now I just need a comfy bike saddle to match.

  1. i don't think these seats will do you well in the long run try getting stuff from pro's like san marco selle italia and fizik

  2. first of all get a good pair of cycling shorts or bib shorts

    then work on the seat

dont get some big thick padded one because they end up causing more pressure around the bones you sit on in the long run

check san marco selle italia fizik and flite saddles

    thicker isnt always better

a good pair of cycling shorts is essential if you want to ride any more then an hour

  3. Terry saddles are made specifically for women, and have a one-month satisifaction guarantee.  Try it, if you don't like it, you can return it, as long as it's still in good shape.

  4. We can't tell you which saddle is best for you.  ONLY YOU CAN.  Everyone's butt is a bit different--  What is comfortable for one person might not necessarily be comfortable for another.

You best find a bike shop that has saddles for you to try out or one with a return policy if the saddle is not comfortable.

And as I mentioned in answering your previous question, Buy A Multi-Tool And Try Adjusting Your Existing Saddle.  You need to "dial it in" by making small adjustments to the angle, horizontal and height until you find a comfortable position.  The person who assembled your bike is only using a "best guess" when he set the saddle position for you.  You have to fine-tune the saddle position yourself!

  5. 1. get your seat properly positionned. have this done with the assistance of the pros at your LBS. the discomfort could be a matter of moving the seat forward or back, not just up or down. the primary reason that a seat is uncomfortable is that it is positionned wrong for the rider.

    2. as previously stated, get proper gender specific cycling shorts.

    3. there is a brief time of discomfort as your body adjusts to any saddle.

    4. the seats you list will ultimately lead to greater chaffing and numbing of your genitalia. these seats are designed for recreational riders going out for short 15 minute rides, not for touring, centuries, or the like.

    5. my guess is, your bike has a better seat than any of these. but if you find that repositionning and cycling shorts don't help, check out Selle Italia, Specialized, Fizik, San Marco, etc.

  6. I cycle when i train for triathlons(up to 26 miles), i looked at your options and i'd like to recommend getting a pair of cycling shorts if you don't have some already, because any proper road bike's seat will be uncomfortable because it is shaped to not effect your rotations. Cycling shorts have padding in the groin area, and are skin tight.
