OK another Hall of Fame question. Which of these players that are concidered specialists, not overall great numbers ( compared to others) but have done things or one thing cosistantly well through the years( Had a special calling card so to speak ) will go into the Hall next and Why? Adam Oates,Steve Larmer,Kevin Lowe,Guy Carbonneau,Esa Tikkanen, or Pat Verbeek. If you have another Hall eligible player that fits the specialized star mold that is not on my list feel free to add and please telll me why you think they should be in.

  1. You really have to look for either Oates or Carbonneau. Oates in the top ten in assists and at least top 25 in points. He never really got the recognition because of the other players in his era and no cups.

Carbonneau should and probably will get it, not only becuase of a seemingly obvious Canadian bias of the Hall, but because he was able to contribute in extraordinary ways to every team he played. Top two way forwards are tough to find  and he is defiantly one of the best ever.

As for the others you forgot Ciccarelli who has an incredible amount of goals but no cup. Lowe, Lamer, and Tikkanen always played next to great players, not knocking their contributions but a lot of the hall is based on career visibility. Verbeek had an odd journey in the league, less talent than most but his production is Hall worthy, I'd bet on waiting a few years with him just because of some of the names coming up in the next few years.

So to recap, good shots in the coming years for both Oates and Carbonneau. A few years to unfortunate passovers for the rest.

  2. I think all of these guys are worthy, but I'm gonna have to go with the little ball of hate, Pat Verbeek. Over 500 goals, over 500 assists, and was always a strong leader on every team he played for.

  3. Oates is almost a lock to get in this year.

From that list, I would pick Carbonneau.  He was a great defensive player.........8x a Selke finalist, 3 trophies and 2 runner ups.

  4. I'll go with Guy Carbonneau. He was a great player and is one heck of a coach.

  5. steve larmer

  6. Definitely Guy Carbonneau. Not only is he the coach of the Habs but he contributed much to hockey as a player too.
