  1. Out of the these three i play the trumpet occasionally but i my major instrument is the French horn which i have been told is one of the hardest to master. I would say the easiest out of these three is the saxophone because that is a reed instrument and my instrument and that are basically the "same" when it comes to playing music the usually match parts most of the time. The tuba has a bigger mouth piece and takes up way more air than either the trumpet or saxophone. The say the ones that take up more air is the flute and the tuba. If i had to pick i would say tuba but the trumpet involves a lot of good set embouchure. =)

Oh i play the euphonium which is somewhat close to the tuba i guess.

  2. It really depends what you do best. Both the tuba and the trumpet require "buzzing" which you do with your mouth, obviously, and, for me they are harder. Buzzing is very tiring on the lips.

However, the saxophone uses reeds, which break easily and are very aggravating when you are a beginner. It also breaks out your lips when you try to play it, or if you do it too often. This can be slightly annoying. Also, both the tuba and trumpet have three keys called valves, requiring you to be able to change the pitch your lips make. However, the saxophone has lots of keys, and is slightly harder to remember all the fingerings.

Your decision also depends on what you want to play it for. If you want to do marching band, any of them would be good. Concert band, tuba might be fun, even though you might not have much of a part. But if you are doing jazz band, go with the trumpet or the saxophone. Both those are very jazzy instruments. The tuba is very large and hard to carry, the saxophone is medium, while a trumpet is pretty easy to carry.

Also, your personality should affect which you choose:

If you are a very outgoing, slightly obnoxious person (no offense intended) you should probably play the trumpet, especially if you want to show off to family and friends. The trumpet has the melody in most songs that you will play, and sounds astonishingly beautiful when played.

If you are somewhat secluded, but like classical music and jazz, or you like to be slightly alone, you might be interested in the saxophone. the sax is a very calming instrument, and can be very relaxing to those listening. When the trumpets don't have the melody, the saxes do. There are also many types of saxes, so if you start on alto and want a change, you can go to soprano, tenor, bass, baritone...

If you are somewhat of a joker, you may be interested in the tuba. The tuba rarely has the melody, and normally is in the background. This intrument is sterotypically played by overweight kids, but in my experince this is not true. Either way, if you really want to play a lot, you may not want to play tuba. Although the tuba is an essential part of any band, they rarely have the melody.

If I were you, I would go with the sax, but then again, I play the clarinet, another reed instrument.

I know this is somewhat sterotypical, and let me just state that this is only my opinion, but I think that this might be at least somewhat relevant.

    Good luck choosing!
