  1. McIntosh (not apple computer) amps are custom made and can cost well into the 6 figure range.

  2. The most expensive?  Krell.  Lexicon.  Theta. Anthem.  Linn. Meridian.  Check out audiogon.com for more super high-end processors.  These are processors, not receivers.  Receivers have amplifiers built into them, processors do not.  You'll have to buy high-end multichannel amps to drive the channels output by these processors.  Expensive amps are Krell, Theta, quite a few others.  Say 20K for the processor, 20K for amps, geez might as well get Wilson Audio speakers, say 80K.  Installation might run 20K.

    Awesome!

  3. check out integra. it's the 'luxury' line of onkyo. these names are very particular with audio quality. check them out and you decide which one sounds better...

  4. Hi,

There is nothing called most EXPENSIVE, you have money to spend you have got the product. And in these kind of products you have do decide on the brand and the products depending on various factors like sound quality, power of the amplifier, aesthetics of the product, brand, etc., So depending on these kind of factors you have whole lot of brands like even which you have mentioned a few. As other friends also have mentioned there are other products which can cut deep into your pocket. And there are the brands which are of Japanese or Europeans. The japanese give you more features with quality and good finish at a price where as the European products mostly give thrust for the performance of the product more than the looks. But feature wise Japenese score. Infact if you are looking for a quite expensive setup and really very good sound as another friend has suggested you can go for a Processor + Amplifier combination where in you will not be compromising on the stereo listening as well as your surround experience and you have good price to pay too.

So few brands which you can consider are Yamaha (Z11), Lexicon, Rotel, Adcom etc.,

  5. The MOST UNGODLY priced amps would actually be the Stereo amps that use Vacuum tubes....

And I doubt they make Dolby amps....

But when it comes down to Dolby AV recievers, the BEST would be the DENON....The Harmon Kardon....The Yamaha and finally the Pioneer amps....

But I prefer the Denon.....that's my choice. And the AV4805CI is the highest priced one that I would buy....

Now...I suppose there are Custom -Built amps out there, but then you're stuck with service and support from ONLY the manufacturer...if they stay in business long enough to provide support.

I'd rather have a Known Company manufacturing a Top-of-the-line amplifier in my home......
