desktops consumes a lot of power.i hav no proof for technically but general speaking it has lot of components to supply for like moniter,speakers,cpu etc. but laptops have in built everything. even because its small in size than desktops.. MAy be....

A desktop will usually consume around 500 or 600 watts of power and a laptop AC adapter uses only 90 watts.

It depends on the power rating of the machine. It depends whether you leave your laptop/PC running, in standby or hibernated when you're not using it. Hibernation suits me best, as it's quickest to restart but uses no power like a shutdown.

With a carefully crafted power scheme the amount of power your machine will use can be regulated. If you switch off the CRT monitor on a PC it will save lots.

desktops consume much more power than laptops, and that other guy is wrong, computers DO consume lots of power, which is why you should turn off your computer, if youre trying to conserve power
