  1. b) deforestation can cause water pollution is correct.

The reason being that you are talking about DEFORESTATION, which is singular, so if you use causes, which is plural, it is grammatically wrong.

  2. I would say that grammatically, answer (b) is correct, if you are writing the sentence like that = Deforestation can cause water pollution.

If, however, you want to use the word "causes", you have to re-write the sentence this way = Deforestation causes water pollution.

    (Delete the word 'can'.)

Hope this is clear for you.

  3. B, because it uses the word cause correctly, in a it's plural :0)

but does water go bad if you chop down a forest? i didn't know that...

  4. b)

I don't believe 'can causes' is ever correct in the English language.

    _/

  5. The second sentence is the correct one, and Yes, words after "can" should be in infinative form.

  6. B is correct in English

  7. B is also  correct but you can use A after making some correction i.e. deforestation causes water pollution. Actually the difference is that B is trying to give us the idea that it is not necessary that deforestation causes water pollution but after making the correction in A it becomes a 'fact'.And the correct one is 'deforestation causes water pollution'(even though it isn't scientifically).
