Which one is better, Canon HV20 or JVC GZ HD7?

I'm sixteen and wanting to purchase a nice camera. Not a cheap one. And not one of the 3,000$ ones. Perhaps within 1 to 2,000 -- ish. I've been looking around at the Canon HV20 and the JVC GZ HD7 and I can't seem to find which one is better. JVC is about 500$ dearer but people are saying the Canon one is better. Anyone want to help me out. I just want to get a really good clear picture have a good manual focus which I can use. Anything will help, ranging from what one you have to what you reckon. Thanks.
