Which one is better Intel or AMD?

I looking for comparison between Intel Core2 Duo and AMD 64x2? Pls. tell me which is better in durability and performance. I just need it for some leisure and college studies, no games.

I recommend Intel for college studies.

AMD means more heat and performance good for over clocking etc.

But all that is unnecessary if your only studying and Intel will be less heat which means your room will be less hot :D

It's getting so HOT lately :"(

I disagree with the first answerer...

Intel is a larger company and have more resources then AMD so their products are usually first in the market. However AMD are good and strong behind. They usually come out with faster cheaper processors shortly thereafter. Competition is good. They are not necessarily good or bad, just different.

Microsoft usually tailer their products toward Intel for some reason probably some agreements between them, but they don't perform any less better on AMD.

Definitely Intel. Intel is more popular and has been around longer so it should be more reliable and durable. AMD is cheaper but I wouldn't recommend it so stick with Intel.

If your not doing games or graphic intensive stuff you could always go with AMD.  AMD chips are cheaper by far.  The big difference between the two is the Intel chip has a larger Front Side Bus.  The Intel chip also has a bigger cache.

Intel core 2 duo is better if you run high powered stuff.. if you dont need all the power and are looking for a system on the cheaper side AMD is better. I currently have an AMD processor and it works fine for me... But I am looking at laptops and for that I want an intel.

Generally intel does better in the top end performance and in performance per watt (which is important for battery life) and amd do better in performance per dollar. but it does pay to look for reviews of the specific processors in question.
