  1. "Better" is a pretty broad word.

Navy includes long periods of time away from home, but you can also visit many countries.  Navy is better if you like the water.  The Navy also has more opportunities to perform special tasks.

The National Guard includes more time at home and less time visiting other countries, as it is basically our national militia.  The National Guard is better if you prefer land.

Explain what you mean by better and I'll edit my answer to fit what you are asking.

  2. I'm assuming that your talking Reserves here.  While both are fine organizations.  I personally have retired from the Navy Reserves, would have to say Go Navy.  The reason I enjoyed the Navy Reserves is because,  on your 2 week "summer camp"  the Navy generally goes to some really cool places.  Instead of camping in the woods. I went to Hawaii, Spain, Italy, Florida, Virginia, Washington DC, New Orleans, on top of that you usually stay in a hotel and draw per deim, which is just extra pay.  And if your wife wants she can stay with you, she will have to get herself there though.  If you want to experience active duty in the reserves you can usually find a place to go through your Reserve Center.  One other thing when you go places active duty, summer camp ect.  you usually are on your own.  Instead of having a entire unit with you.
