What is the difference? Is the SAT better to take or is the ACT better to take? Which one do colleges prefer?

Thanks!

  1. Colleges still prefer the SAT, I don't know what colleges you are applying to but you should always take the SAT. What I am doing though is I am taking the SAT (Hoping to get over 2,000 the first time) THEN if I am happy with my SAT score, I will submit that and start prepping for the ACT, and the SAT subject tests afterwards. To make a long story short just take the regular old SAT and go from there.

EDIT: The ACT is supposedly easier than the SAT. As far as differences, well, that can be answered with a simple Google search.

  2. It really depends on the college. I would suggest checking the websites for colleges that you are interested in and see what their entry requirements are. Usually they will list a minimum ACT or SAT score.

  3. Colleges each have their own policies when it comes to which of the two they prefer.  Often, they take either one with no preference.  Schools in the midwest tend to be more ACT-oriented, while other schools are more SAT-oriented.  My suggestion would be to take both of the tests because a lot of the time, people do better on one test than the other test.  I did a bit better on the ACT myself.  So take both (after preparing).  Check out www.act.org and www.collegeboard.com for information about the two tests' formats and things like that (they're quite different in that sense).
