3) it should be light enough and kind of hug my body softly.

  1. Sorry but a duvet is not a cover for the comforter but it's all together different , a duvet is made with down and requires a cover for keeping the feathers from poking  and venture out from the fabric, duvet are light and warm to have on top of a bed, it also depends on the type of feathers that were used you will notice the difference  in the price , down is from the soft part of a duck or swan . If you notice all duvet are covered with white or off white fabric for the simple reason that they are meant to be covered by another type of fabric . And they are to be professionally cleaned.

Comforters are mostly made with synthetic fillers the only expensive thing about the comforter is on the type of fabric used, the quilting technique that was done either by hand or machine,  depending on the fabric used comforter can be machine washed.

If you are going to invest in a duvet buy the best that you can afford, it will last you for many years providing that you take good care of it . For the store location I don't know where you live but if you look in specialty stores that sell beddings they probably will have them, I have found a link for you in case you are near to one of these stores they have a lot of nice things in here, and remember that you get what you spend for .

  2. I think the confusion in the above answers is because the words for these things differ from country to country. What is a "duvet" in one country is a "comforter cover" in another and a "duvet cover" in a third.

Here in Canada a duvet is a thick white cotton item of bedding which has been stuffed with down or feathers (or, in the case of "down alternative", polyester batting). A comforter is a thick bed covering made of a fashion fabric and stuffed with polyester batting. So a "down comforter" would not exist, because comforters are always stuffed with polyester. The cover that can be used to cover either a comforter or a duvet is called a "duvet cover".

I have never heard of the duvet cover being called a "duvet" itself, but perhaps that's the case somewhere else. To me it's like calling a pillowcase a pillow.

  3. I'm in the U.K and here a duvet is a type of quilt which is available in down, feather, a mixture of both or synthetic fillings and in various weights called tog ratings suitable for different climates. It's inserted into a pillow case type covering which is washable - most down duvets aren't.

A comforter is more of a bedspread - you would need other coverings under it - sheets and blankets etc.

  4. you do realize that a duvet covers the down comforter much like a pillow case covers a pillow right?

  5. You're talking about two different things that work together.  A duvet is a cover for a comforter.  It's used to protect the comforter, and can be removed for washing.

Down comforters are wonderful things in cold climates.  I had one here in South Texas, and had to get rid of it because it was too hot!

Quilts and blankets are other options for coverings.  The selection for all coverings is wide, and so is the price range.  Electric blankets are nice, especially those with dual controls.  That way each sleeper gets what they want.  Just use a sheet between you and the blanket, and it shouldn't smell.
