I have been cooking with beef chuck and yesterday I went by my grandmother's house and her hamburger helper had a totally different taste. She told me that is was probably my meat. Which one has the better taste?

  1. It really depends on what you are cooking, and what you like.

Some people like fattier meat because it has more flavour, but some people don't like the fat in the meats. So do what you like the best.

  2. As a rule.. the fattier the hamburger the more flavor it will have.

It also means more to drain off, but the flavor of the ground beef is in the fat.

So its really a mater of preference as to which you use.

Ground sirloin, ground rounds are the leanest.  You will see on the package numbers like 70/30 or 80/20  that tells the fat/meat ratio   70 percent meat to 30 percent fat.  Sometimes you will even see a 90/10.. that usually coomes on a ground round package.

Ground chuck is a better grade  than the cheap hamburger, but more fatty than a ground sirloin
